Leaders Honor Rajiv Gandhi on 33rd Death Anniversary

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to mark the 33rd anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s passing. The Prime Minister paid his homage to the late Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji by writing, “On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM.” on X.

At Veer Bhumi in Delhi on Tuesday morning, Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi. Other Congress leaders who paid their tributes in the nation’s capital were Sachin Pilot and P Chidambaram.

In 1984, Rajiv Gandhi became the Congress’s leader after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, his mother, was assassinated. At forty years old, he became India’s youngest prime minister, holding the position from October 1984 until December 1989. Rajiv Gandhi was born on August 20, 1944, and died on May 21, 1991, tragically, during an electoral rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, at the hands of a suicide bomber from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
