“Arvind Kejriwal Challenges Arrest in Delhi High Court Over Excise Policy Case”

Share

New Delhi , 2 July :

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal filed a petition with the Delhi High Court on Monday, challenging his arrest and remand by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in relation to the excise policy case. This action follows a court’s decision to place Kejriwal in judicial custody until July 12, in connection with a corruption case involving an alleged excise scam. The court noted that Kejriwal’s name had emerged as one of the main conspirators, and as the investigation is ongoing, further custodial interrogation might be necessary.

Kejriwal was initially arrested by the CBI concerning the Delhi government’s excise policy. On March 21, he was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a related money-laundering case associated with the now-scrapped policy. Although a trial court granted him bail, the decision was stayed by the Delhi High Court.

The Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 was withdrawn by Kejriwal’s government in July 2022 after Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena recommended a CBI investigation into alleged irregularities in its formulation and implementation.
