Thane:

A two-story building piece that had previously been considered hazardous collapsed in Bhiwandi town in Maharashtra’s Thane district, municipal officials announced on Wednesday, as reported by PTI.

The event, which occurred about 10 p.m. on Tuesday, resulted in the rescue of six people from the premises. Raju Warlikar, head of the Bhiwandi Nizampur Municipal Corporation’s disaster management cell, supplied information, noting that the building at the Bhandari compound, which had 15 apartments, had been designated as hazardous and unsuitable for habitation.

According to Warlikar, the building’s owner was ordered to quit the premises. However, on Tuesday night, several people entered the first floor to relax, causing the second-story staircase to fall. Local firefighting and disaster management teams arrived on the scene shortly after getting alerts. Ajay Vaidya, the civic commissioner, led the rescue attempts. The remaining portion of the staircase was then destroyed, with the building scheduled to be demolished beginning on Wednesday.

Warlikar underlined the need to evacuate such structures ahead of the monsoon season and ensure their demolition. He reiterated that the same procedure would be followed in this case.
