Share

Kolkata:

Anwarul Azim Anar, a member of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party, has been reported missing in Kolkata, where he had arrived for medical treatment. Kolkata police launched a hunt for him when he landed on May 12. Anar’s phone is currently switched off, increasing concerns for his safety. Authorities suspect foul play and are probing the potential of his murder, with fears that his body was disposed of in Kolkata’s Newtown neighborhood.

During search operations, a dismembered body was recovered in Newtown but has yet to be recognized. Anar, 56, had been staying at his friend Gopal Biswas’ home before going missing two days later. After learning about Anar’s disappearance, Biswas filed a complaint with the Kolkata police. Anar’s family has also alerted Sheikh Hasina, and her office has notified embassies in Delhi and Kolkata.
