India’s Foreign Minister Confronts Western Allegations and Influence

Kolkata:

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar stated on Tuesday that Western countries expect conformity from nations like as India, but India’s refusal to adhere to their expectations originates from their long-standing practice of exerting influence on the global stage. He emphasized recent claims made by Canada and the United States against India, underscoring Western nations’ ability to influence global politics.

In a particular instance, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government of participation in the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. India promptly denied the allegations. Similarly, the US claimed to have foiled an Indian conspiracy to kill Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a US-based Sikh separatist, forcing India to form an investigative panel to investigate.  Jaishankar pointed out the hypocrisy of Western nations lecturing others on governance, citing their own electoral difficulties. He chastised the Western media for openly supporting political candidates and parties and using reputational techniques to damage countries who do not share their views.

Finally, Jaishankar stressed that Western countries are concerned about India’s failure to adhere to their expectations, since it undermines their established image of influence and control.
