A fire broke out early Tuesday morning in an industrial facility in Mumbai’s Dharavi slum, injuring at least six people. The fire, which started at 3:45 a.m., burned structures spanning three and four stories in the Ashok Mill Compound at Kala Qila. According to initial reports, the fire started in a textile unit and consumed largely timber goods and furniture.

Five fire engines and extra firefighting resources were dispatched to the location immediately. Along with firefighters, city police, civic ward teams, Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) officials, and ambulances were quickly dispatched to respond to the incident. The injured were quickly evacuated to the adjacent Sion hospital, where they are currently being treated for their burns.

As the investigation into the occurrence begins, recent fire tragedies in the area come to mind. Last week, a devastating boiler explosion shook the Amber Chemical Company in Dombivli, killing five people and injuring 56 others severely. Similarly, a terrible fire at the Baby Care New Born facility in Vivek Vihar, Delhi, claimed the lives of seven infants, with further casualties reported. Concurrently, a separate incident occurred at Delhi’s Rajiv Chowk station, when a pantograph aboard a Delhi Metro train caught fire owing to external influence, prompting immediate action by officials.
