Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has again asked to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to cancel suspended Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MP Prajwal Revanna’s diplomatic passport. Prajwal Revanna is charged with many counts of sexual abuse against women.
The NDA candidate for Karnataka’s Hassan Lok Sabha seat, Revanna, used his diplomatic passport to flee to Germany on April 27, which Siddaramaiah called “shameful” in a recent letter. This escape happened a few hours before the first official complaint was filed against him, and shortly after the details of his alleged offenses were made public.
Revanna was charged by Siddaramaiah with abusing his diplomatic status in order to avoid facing justice. Sources claim that the Ministry of External Affairs has been asked by the Karnataka government to revoke Revanna’s diplomatic passport.
Despite the publication of a Blue Corner Notice and a Look Out Circular, Revanna has continued to elude the authorities, which has the Chief Minister gravely concerned. Despite the gravity of the situation, Siddaramaiah regretted that his previous requests on this matter had gone unanswered.
Siddaramaiah underlined the seriousness of the situation and urged PM Modi to act swiftly to remove the 33-year-old MP’s diplomatic passport. Prajwal Revanna, the son of Karnataka MLA HD Revanna and grandson of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, is facing several allegations of sexual assault. Following the circulation of explicit video recordings purportedly depicting Revanna abusing multiple women in Hassan, the Karnataka government decided to look into the claims. The day after the Hassan election, on April 27, Revanna allegedly departed for Germany.
