Maharashtra Probes Porsche Crash Blood Tampering

Following the arrest of two physicians and an employee from Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital, the Maharashtra government has created a three-member committee to investigate the suspected tampering of a juvenile driver’s blood sample in a Porsche automobile crash. Medical Education Commissioner Rajiv Nivatkar has selected Dr. Pallavi Sapale, dean of Grant Medical College and the J J group of hospitals, as the committee’s chairperson. The other members are Dr. Gajanan Chavan, a forensic medicine professor at Grant Medical College, and Dr. Sudhir Chowdhary, Special Duty Officer at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Government Medical College and Super Speciality Hospital.

The committee has been directed to visit Pune on Tuesday, with Dr. Vinayak Kale, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital, to assist with the investigation. Dr. Ajay Taware, the head of the Forensic Medicine department at Sassoon Hospital, Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the chief medical officer, and staff member Atul Ghatkamble, who reports to Dr. Taware, have all been detained by Pune Police. The arrests are in connection with the suspected manipulation of a blood sample from the car crash investigation. All three accused have been put into police custody until May 30.
