The Royals, who had been eyeing a top finish in the league, have stumbled with four straight losses and a rained-out match against KKR, finishing third behind Sunrisers Hyderabad. After a dismal start with seven losses in their first eight games, they have bounced back with six consecutive wins, recently ousting defending champions Chennai Super Kings to secure their playoff spot.
While Rajasthan Royals are looking to recover from their recent slump, RCB’s momentum is peaking. However, unpredictable weather could play a pivotal role in this knockout match, potentially affecting RCB’s winning streak. According to Rule 13.7.3 of the IPL 2024 Match Playing Conditions, an additional 120 minutes (two hours) are allotted to complete a match delayed by rain. This rule applies to both league and playoff matches, with an additional provision for a Reserve Day in the playoffs. Thus, if the Eliminator between RCB and RR cannot be completed on the scheduled day, it will continue on the Reserve Day.
“For the play-off matches, in addition to the extra time referred to above, there may be reserve days (on which an incomplete play-off match shall be completed),” the rule states. This season, all playoff matches, including the final on May 26, have a Reserve Day. If the match extends to the Reserve Day, it will start afresh. If weather conditions prevent any play on both the scheduled and Reserve Days, and a Super Over cannot be conducted, the team that finished higher in the league stage will progress. This scenario benefits Rajasthan Royals, who finished higher than RCB.
Rajasthan Royals are poised for a major test as they clash with the rejuvenated RCB in the IPL Eliminator. With weather conditions possibly influencing the match, the outcome might hinge on league standings, giving the Royals an advantage if the match is washed out.
