Mumbai:

As the fifth phase of India’s month-long general elections 2024 began on Monday, Ujjwal Nikam, the BJP candidate for the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency, voiced hope, asking all Mumbai residents to use their voting rights. Nikam added, “I’ll start by visiting a temple, then vote, and finally tour the polling stations in my constituency.” Voting represents a democratic celebration, and I hope that everyone in Mumbai participates.”

The voting procedure includes 49 parliamentary constituencies in six states and two Union Territories, with strict security measures in place. Polling began at 7 a.m. and will continue until 6 p.m., allowing those who were in line at the closing time to vote. The BJP has nominated Ujjwal Nikam, renowned for his work as special prosecutor in the 26/11 Mumbai attack case, to run against Congress candidate Varsha Gaikwad in the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency. Poonam Mahajan, who has held the seat since 2014, was the previous BJP MP. The constituency is divided into six assembly segments: Vile Parle, Chandivali, Kurla, Kalina, Bandra East, and Bandra West. After Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra has the second-highest number of Lok Sabha seats (48).

The results of India’s seven-phase General Elections 2024 will be published on June 4.
